With the world in its current state, it’s important to take a mental health break and just escape from reality, and fantasy novels are perfect for that. These five new novels are filled with great characters and tons of adventure. You don’t want to miss these books!

 

1. House of Dragons by Jessica Cluess

House of Dragons is where five royal houses will compete in a trail for the dragon throne. The Emperor has recently died, and now a new emperor will be chosen, and the oldest child from each of the royal homes of Etruisa have to compete. This year, not only are these five the oldest child in their home, but they’re also outcasts. Emillia is the liar and she has no choice but to hide her dark magic or be sentenced to death. Lucian is the solider, but even though he’s a warrior he has sworn to never touch a sword again. Then there is Vespir, the servant, who is a dragon with the skills to keep her in the game. Ajax is the theif and he takes what he wants because he knows nothing is free. Last but not least, there is Hyperia, the murderer who will stop at nothing to take her throne.

 

 

2. The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea by Maggie Tokuda-Hall

The Mermaid, the Witch, and the Sea, tells the story of two girls, Flora, and Lady Evelyn. Flora is aboard the pirate ship Dove, but she is hiding her female identity and has taken the identity of a man, now named Florian. She is trying to earn the respect of the crew, and based on her street urchin background, she knows how to be a pirate, by not sticking out and not feeling. However, the pirates are preparing to sell their passengets into slavery, and Flora is immediately drawn to Lady Evelyn. Lady Evelyn is en route to an arranged marriage with a casket for herself in toe as well. Neither girl expected to form a deep bond with one another. Now, both girls are set to escape, and during their escape they will set free a mermaid that has been captured, get help from a witch, and, of course, the sea itself.

 

3. The Kingdom of Liars by Nick Martell

The Kingdom of Liars tells the story of Michael and how he was branded a traitor when he was a child, due to the murder of the king’s son at his father’s hand. Now, ten years have passed and Gwen, Michael’s sister, is leading a life of crime with Michael’s friends to take back from the world that doesn’t want them. While Michael is trying to find something in his mind, he makes a desperate attempt to venture back into the court, with the most dangerous member of the royal council, in order to get his past life back. When he gets it, he finds a royal family in turmoil as it’s spiraling into a dictatorship with rebels, guns, and magically-trained millita. All of this truth will change the Hollows and Michael and his friends must fight to survive it.

The Dark In-Between follows Casey, who was pronounced dead on the beach at the year end harbour party, but then comes back to life. Unfortunately, her best friend Libby drowns. When Casey returns home for the summer she tries to avoid rumors, but violent nightmares and soulless whispers are haunting her. Then, when she sees a boy fall from the sky, she believes she has completely lost it. However, she learns the boy, Red, is a fallen angel and in order to regain his wings he takes Casey to Limbo, the land between the living and the dead. Casey has a chance to save Libby and in order to do so she must learn to walk these mysterious and dangerous paths – or lose Libby forever.
