Yes, twinkle toes, you read the title correctly; our favorite earthbender is finally getting her own standalone novel. Honestly all this great Avatar content we’ve been getting these past few months, makes a girl want to lovingly punch someone’s arm. It’s undeniable that Toph is the greatest earthbender, like ever, so Dark House, which has been the home of all of the Avatar comics, continuing Toph’s legacy makes so much sense! So let’s jump into the details!

For those of you who’ve started reading the amazing Avatar comics such as The Promise and The Search (if you haven’t, I’m giving you major side-eye), you already know that Toph started a metal bending academy and in The Search, she’s MIA. In Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy we see Toph’s adventures and what she’s been up to. The project was only recently revealed on the Penguin Random House website and is likely one of the unannounced projects referred to in yesterday’s Comic-Con@Home Avatar panel. The story will take place after the show, likely during the timeline of one of the other comics where Toph was absent, such as The Search. This will be the second standalone graphic novel set in the Avatar universe after Katara and the Pirate’s Silver (definitely look out for my coverage on that!), which is set to be released later this year. Faith Erin Hicks, author of Katara and the Pirate’s Silver and the Imbalance trilogy, is also behind Toph’s standalone.

Toph Beifong’s Metalbending Academy is scheduled to come out in 2021, and it’s available for preorder. I’m already counting the days until 2021.
