The debut novel of an Australian journalist is coming to the small screen with a big star attached to it.
Trent Dalton’s Boy Swallows Universe will be coming to the small screen after a very intense bidding war won by production companies Anonymous Content, Chapter One and HopScotch Features. Joel Edgerton (star of Loving and The Great Gatsby) is signed on as a producer, with Dalton looking to executive produce.
The novel tells the story of Eli, a young boy whose parents are drug addicts and is raised by a prison escapee who acts as a surrogate parent. It is a coming-of-age story where Eli falls in love, narrowly avoids a drug kingpin and takes care of his silent older brother.
Since the deal just went through, the project is still a long ways away from finding any sort of directors or writers, as well as whether or not Edgerton will star in the series.
