HBO has finally revealed that the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is currently in production and is set to be released 2022.
Based on George R.R Martin’s Fire & Blood, which is set 300 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire, House of the Dragon will tell the story of House Targaryen. The show stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooks as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen and Steve Toussaint as Sea Snake Lord Corlys Velaryon, among many others.
The network made the announcement on Twitter, accompanied by a picture of the cast sitting around a socially distanced table read:

Screenwriters Martin and Ryan Condal will serve as co-creators of the series, as well as executive producers along with Miguel Sapochnik, Vince Gerardis, Sara Lee Hess and Ron Schmidt. Sapochnik, whose directing credits include six Game of Thrones episodes (including the Emmy award winning Battle of the Bastards), will direct the series, along with Clare Kilner (The Alienist: Angel of Darkness, The Wedding Date) and Geeta V. Patel (Meet the Patels, The Witcher).
House of the Dragon will be released on HBO Max as well as HBO.
