Heather Morris wrote The Tattooist of Auschwitz after conducting extensive interviews with the real life protagonist of her work, Ludwig (Lale) Sokolov. The plot centers around the experiences Sokolov endured while living as a Jewish prisoner during the Holocaust. And now, Morris’ work and Sokolov’s life will be adapted into its very own television series.

Synchronicity Films have snatched up the TV rights to Morris’ renowned novel. The series is supposed to be a high end developed drama series scheduled to release on the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz in January of 2020. Jacqueline Perske has been announced to adapt the novel into film/television format.

To date, The Tattooist of Auschwitz has sold close to 1 million copies internationally. For those unacquainted with Morris’ bestseller, the story sets on the real life experience of Sokolov in possibly the most notorious and infamous place of the past century, Auschwitz. Lale Sokolov is spared death, but works at the death camp as the Tätowierer, or tattooist. Lale is a strong and morally upright man, choosing to protect whoever he can in his struggle. But not all is grim, for Sokolov tells us of how he met Gita, and how their romance bloomed. Morris masterfully blends the bleak conflict with the happiness these amazing characters are able to feel.
