The Harry Potter franchise is not just for kids… but it is full of them. Due to Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint being eleven during the filming of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, there was no chance of avoiding children on set. Given the movie’s massive viewership (and probably massive paycheck), it’s no wonder that this actress sucked it up and took to the screen. But they didn’t pay her to like it—and it sounds as though she didn’t.

You may know Miriam Margolyes from her appearance as Professor Pomona Sprout in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II. You may also know her from a slew of other children’s movies: she’s the voice of the Matchmaker in Mulan and Aunt Sponge in James and the Giant Peach. If you thought her consistent roles in children’s movies meant that she actually liked kids… you’d be wrong.

Her confession was startling, given her background: “I don’t like children. I don’t want to be with children. I wish them well. I genuinely do. I’d kill anyone who hurt a child, but I just don’t want them near me!” When interviewers prompted her to explain why, she admitted the truth—”they make noise and they take attention from me.” This seems particularly relevant in the Harry Potter franchise: when your co-star is the childhood icon of the generation, it might be a little hard to snag the spotlight.
